For the second time in Chris Arreola’s career, he has tested positive on a post fight drug test. The positive test cost him yet another victory, this time it was for his bout with longtime friend Travis Kauffman.
The fight, which took place in San Antonio, Texas on December 18, was a close action packed one that saw Arreola take a split decision. Two judges had the fight in favor or Arreola 114-113, while one judge had it with the same score, but in favor or Kauffman.
The other time that Arreola tested positive was in July of 2011, when a lopsided victory over Friday Ahunanya.
Arreola also received a $750 fine and a 90-day suspension that he did not appeal nor did he ask for his second sample to be tested. He is expected to be back in the ring around the month of April.
Arreola’s boxing record now stands at 36-4-1 (31 KOs) and Kauffman’s record is now at 30-1 (22 KOs). Arreola has not publicly spoken on this matter.
